As musical collaborations go, William Barton together with the four musicians of the Brodsky Quartet probably wins the prize. Originally planned for 2020, William and the Brodskys finally get together with memories of that ill-fated summer but also with genuine hopes for musical reconciliation.
The program unites two icons of the classical canon with Barton’s own music and the belated world premiere of Andrew Ford’s quartet written during the bushfires of late 2019. Bach’s Violin Sonata re-imagined by Brodsky and Schubert’s final string quartet represent a timeless musical statement of humanity united.
